Agenda

1:00 - 2:05 Drill into 12.2 Analytic Views for Developers, DBA’s, and Analysts

With Oracle Database 12c Release 2, Oracle has included a new metadata-only solution to multi-dimensional analysis that works like most dimensional databases and BI cubes. In a typical Business Intelligence (BI) stack, this functionality would usually be spread across an ETL layer, a repository layer, and a tool layer. This distribution can make it difficult to troubleshoot the logic and data between what the user sees and what is in the transactional database source. Analytic views eliminate this distribution by providing, in a single metadata construct: attribute dimensions, hierarchies, views, measures, and even documentation. Oracle has extended its SQL language to allow for very simple SQL statements that do complex things like navigate different hierarchies and aggregations. We will illustrate all of these features with an Apex application that does multi-dimensional analysis.

2:10 - 2:55 Secure Your Insurance Policy: Architecting Maximum Availability and Disaster Recovery with Oracle Cloud

No matter what the corporate cloud strategy is, customers need to ensure that databases can be recovered anywhere. Viscosity will provide the latest backup and recovery strategies using new capabilities in Oracle Database 12c Release 2, and related on-premises and cloud solutions. Learn cool tips, tricks, and best practices to enable you to build a complete disaster recovery solution with Oracle Recovery Manager.

We need to ensure that secure backups are performed and that the data can be restored when disaster strikes. Leveraging technologies like Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance Cloud Pools and Oracle Cloud Storage Software Appliance, we can easily achieve seamless data replication from on premise to Oracle Cloud to provide ongoing protection, restoration, and recovery of the data when media and hardware failures occur or even in the loss of the data center? We will provide an architected solution to provide a hybrid disaster recovery solution. The objective is to provide database availability, continuous protection, and reduce IT OpEx while safeguarding the company mission critical Oracle databases.

3:00 - 3:40 Architecting Micro-services and Applications on Oracle for Maximum Availability and Disaster Recovery

Modern web applications make heavy use of web services. Did you know you could design these in the Oracle database so that performance and availability are optimized? We explore how to leverage Oracle RESTful Data Services and how to set up the application containers for load balancing and maximum availability. With the logic and metadata stored in the database, we will build a simple javascript and Oracle Apex application to take advantage of the availability architecture. We will replicate the database, data, application metadata, and the application itself into Oracle cloud infrastructure.

3:45 - 4:30 Upgrading to Oracle Database 12c Release 2 with Zero Downtime

Many companies opt to perform a technology refresh when they are ready to do a database upgrade. Learn what is needed to perform a zero downtime upgrade of the databases on ODA/Exadata/X-86 hardware. Database upgrades consume a lot of the corporate resources for testing and infrastructure staff. We will show how you can reduce up the upgrade timeline and testing cycles by rapidly provisioning of DEV/TEST/UAT environments on Oracle by leveraging technologies like Snapshot Manager Utility (SMU) on the ZFS Storage Appliance. Also, reduce your storage footprint with deep deduplication and compression on the ZFS Storage Appliance and Exadata.

As you are upgrading to new hardware, learn how you can increase licensing efficiency on Oracle hardware; as well as learn how sub-capacity licensing work on Exadata and ODA.  Lastly, we will look at the new X-7 architecture and what it means for reducing Oracle licensing as you consolidate more Oracle databases on Oracle hardware.
