Crystal Reports is a basic reporting application built by SAP and currently marketed to small and medium sized businesses. The tool allows users to graphically design the report layout through a WYSIWYG GUI interface. Users can also graphically build data queries by selecting tables, columns, and linking them via the Database Expert. These data sources include Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases.
De-support of Crystal Reports
Over the years, several other commercial software packages including Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 and Delphi have included Crystal Reports with their products as a general purpose reporting tool. Microsoft deprecated Crystal Reports with the final release in 2008, preferring instead to promote its own reporting tool SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services).
Peoplesoft Crystal Reports
Oracle has also discontinued the practice of including and supporting Crystal Reports in it’s PeopleSoft product line with PeopleTools 8.54 being the last version to support Crystal Reports and version 8.51 being the last to bundle it as an OEM product.
